Early Division Four South West pace-setters Cwmgors maintained their unbeaten start with a thumping victory against a Betws side who tackled like terriers throughout despite being up against it all afternoon.

The home side crossed for 13 tries in all with three players scoring the bulk of the touchdowns.

It took just six minutes for Cwm to open the scoring when a neat cross-field kick allowed centre Lloyd Watson to follow up and score.

Man of the match Steff Rees directed the traffic all afternoon and he converted full-back Darrell Howells’ tenth minute try before wing Scott Stephens flew over three minutes later for another score.

Dogged Betws held out for another ten minutes, but the seemingly inevitable bonus point was flagged up when flanker Darryl John crossed and Rees converted.

Rees, Howells and John added further tries as the Cherries built up a commanding 43-0 interval lead.

The visitors continued to be pegged back in the second half and John soon grabbed his second try three minutes in, converted by Rees.

Full back Howells completed his hat-trick five minutes later before Watson mirrored the achievement with a brace in quick succession sandwiching Stephens second before, with virtually the last move of the match, John snatched a late score to also round off a hat-trick.

Cwmgors take a break from league action this Saturday as they host Gowerton in the SWALEC Bowl.
