Llandybie tennis club faced a double dose of disappoi9ntment as both their Ladies and Men’s Seconds teams fell at the last, losing their respective promotion play-offs against against the runners-up in the East Wales leagues.

Both teams failed to make the most of home advantage with the ladies losing to Cardiff 5-4 and the men 5-1.

The pairing of Helen Morris and Chloe Alpine won two events.

The pairings of Daphne Jones and Eryl Davies and Helena Nicholas and Hazel Davies both won one.

Helen and Chloe lost out in the third set tie break after winning the first.

Victory would have seen the ladies promoted to the South Wales Premier League for the first time in their history.

In the men’s match, captain Jonathan Thomas and Emyr Nicholas won the one event.

The other pairings were Anthony Davies and Chris Harris; and Nathan Thomas and Tim Chapman.

The men’s second team can build on the experience for next year’s campaign.

The ladies team begin their winter league programme with a home match against Virgin Active, Llandarcy, this weekend.
