Division Three West
Penclawdd 30 Llandeilo 17
Some weeks you just have to put your hands up, admit you simply were not good enough - so it was with Llandeilo’s visit to Penclawdd.
Despite a bright start and an even better finish, the visitors failed to maintain any momentum and could have no argument with the final score.
Things looked good for Llandeilo when sustained early pressure resulted in outside-half Josh Archer charging his way over after just five minutes.
Llandeilo held the lead, and their shape, into the second quarter when a contentious five-metre line out led to Penclawdd crossing in the corner to level the score.
The hosts began to take a hold and crossed again before half-time, which, added to a penalty gave them an interval lead of 18-5.
Though their scrum was largely comfortable, Llandeilo’s lineout failed to function, especially after an early injury to front jumper George Plowman and a later injury to captain Celfyn Davies.
With ten minutes to go in a second half in which time both teams had two players yellow carded, Penclawdd had taken their lead to 30-5, at which point the visitors came to life and rounded the game off with two excellent tries by Rob Hughes and Dan Thomas.
Llandeilo will be looking forward to getting back on track against Llanelli Wanderers at Cae William next Saturday.
