Division Two
Ammanford 0 Undy Athletic 0
Ammanford, who lost only narrowly to Undy Athletic on the opening day of the season, faced a real test of their progress with the visitors eyeing top-spot should they claim the win and results elsewhere go in their favour.
The game saw Ammanford still desperately searching for their first point of the season and proved a stern test for Gruff Harrison's young charges.
The hosts found themselves under the cosh from the off, conceding six corners inside the opening ten minutes with two snap shots going just wide.
But Ammanford dug in and could have taken the lead on 30 minutes when Chris Hyde’s shot hit the cross bar.
But Undy had much the better of the play and the second half proved to be no different.
Ammanford centre-half Rhys Owen putting in a goal and match-saving tackle on 75 minutes and proved the hosts' outstanding player as the visitors dominated play.
With Ammanford forced onto the back-foot throughout and left defending desperately there some hearts in mouths when they conceded a free-kick and two corners in the dying minutes.
But somehow they repelled the onslaught to finish the match with the scores goalless.
Harrison's men can take real credit from a battling performance against an Undy side who are by far the best team that Ammanford have played this season.
Again Ammanford found themselves with players missing but it is becoming despite their poor run of results, they are appearing to gel with the nucleus of a strong squad forming.
Although early results have been disappointing, Harrison has faced the league's high-flyers during the early stages and the future looks brighter.
Ammanford travel to Ely Rangers on Friday before hosting Cardiff Corries on Saturday, October 12.
