FAW Intermediate Cup

Llanelli Town 9 Bryn Rovers 1

Bryn Rovers were dealt a harsh lesson by the former champions of the Welsh Premier League at Stebonheath.

Bryn had a decent first half and were only trailing 2-1 at the interval thanks to a goal from Mark Griffiths after a precise ball by Dan McMahon.

The second half however belonged to the home team as they created chances at will and their superior fitness levels saw them dominate as the game went on.

Mike Eady, Dan McMahon and Matt Jones had good games for Bryn in what was the club’s biggest game in years.

Meanwhile, Bryn’s incredible 53-game winning streak in the Neath and District Reserve Division One came to a crashing end in spectacular fashion after an eight-goal thriller at Cae Criced as they lost 5-3 to Ystradgynlais.

Julian Wycherley grabbed two for Bryn and captain Carwyn Sheldon also got his name on the scoresheet, but Rovers will need to move on quickly if they are to retain their title.

Elsewhere, Adam Campbell scored five great goals in a man-of-the-match performance as unbeaten Bryn climbed to the top of Reserve Division Three thanks to a 6-3 home win over Godregraig while goals from Jamie Pugh (two), Cerith Watkin and Owen Davies ensured a 4-2 away win in the Reserve Division Three Cup.

Rovers also progressed into the second round of the West Wales Cup with a comfortable win at 7-1 at Rhos. Player-manager Mark James was the man of the match for an under strength Bryn side thanks to a stunning five-goal haul while Rhodri Thomas and Peter Windsor claimed the visitors’ other goals.
