Swalec Bowl First Round
Cwmgors 32 Gowerton 7
Unbeaten Cwmgors took a break from their league exploits to entertain another previously-unbeaten side, Division Four West leaders Gowerton in the first round of the Swalec Bowl.
With confidence sky-high, Cwmgors made a bright start and took the lead when Steff Rees took an interception deep inside his own half and raced the length of the field to score under the posts.
The visitors fell further behind when a crossfield kick from full- back Darren Howells was taken on by Carl Carter, finding centre Lloyd Watson to cross in the corner. Rees converted.
Gowerton hit back with a try, but Rees slotted a penalty before the visitors had a real purple patch before half-time and their attacking almost paid dividends, but a superb try-saving tackle from man of the match Rob Clive.
Gors went into the break leading 15-7.
In the second half, a quick tap-penalty by Rees paved the way for centre Watson to grab his second of the match. Rees converted and added a penalty to take his side 25-7 ahead.
Replacement flanker Iwan Davies came on to bag a deserved try and cap a fine victory against a strong side, highlighting just how far Cwmgors have come in the past two seasons.
Cwmgors return to league action on Saturday with their first-ever visit to Bridgend Sports.
