Division Two West

Dunvant 30 Amman United 25

Amman United sank to their second Division Two West defeat on their travels in an entertaining encounter that could have gone either way.

Contrary to most of their matches so far this season, Amman made an unusually good start and established a 13-0 advantage after just ten minutes.

But complacency set in and United allowed the home side to get a foothold into the game.

Dunvant hit back to exploit some midfield gaps to grab a couple of tries before the the game was marred by an injury to one of the hosts leading to an hour’s delay in play while paramedics were summoned.

The sides scored three tries apiece ultimately, Amman’s strength in the scrums again evident as they forced a pushover try, finished off by forward Karl Worsfold.

They gave a creaking Dunvant scrum huge problems to force a further penalty try - Amman’s sixth of the season.

Flier Dean Williams grabbed the other Amman try while Adrian Thomas added ten points with the boot, but Amman, trailing 27-25 with some 15 minutes remaining, missed a couple of late penalties which could have nicked a late victory.

With the Amman pack in total dominance and turning the screw deep in the second half, conspiracy-theorists were up in arms when the home side took off a prop leading to uncontested scrums late on, so blunting Amman’s most lethal weapon.

Scrum half Ryan Williams was excellent for the visitors while Dean Williams also provided Amman’s main attacking potency.

Second-placed Amman entertain bottom-side Aberavon Quins on Saturday.
