Division Two

Ely Rangers 3 Ammanford 2

Ammanford’s keeper Jamie Rano made a great save on ten minutes, but from there on it was all Ammanford.

The visitors had their just rewards on 20 minutes when Sam Wilson fired home the rebound after his first attempt was parried by the Rangers keeper.

With Ammanford earning regular free-kicks as the hosts failed to deal with the pace of the Amman Valley men, the visitors deservedly extended their lead thanks to a Mathew Fisher dead-ball special.

Fisher spurned the chance to put Ammanfordf three-up when one-on-one with the keeper – and the miss was to prove costly.

On 42 minutes Ammanford failed to clear a free-kick and Ely scored to give them renewed confidence for the second half.

They took their chance on 50 minutes when another piece of poor Ammanford defending left the door open for Ely Rangers.

Although the visitors were still well in the game, they had keeper Rano to thank for some heroic saves but again it was not to be.

Ammanford’s lack of defensive qualities came to the fore 10 minutes from time when Rangers scored the vital third directly from a corner.

The defeat puts Ammanford firmly at the bottom of the league., even though the only team to have comprehensively outplayed them this season were Undy Atheletic - and Ammanford earned their solitary point from the fixture.

Saturday sees Ammanford host Cardiff Corries (KO 2pm).
