Cwmaman United 0 Ystradgynlais 1 Macwhirter Welsh League Division 3 In a keenly contested local derby Ystradgynlais came out on top with the only goal of the game coming from the penalty spot.
Cwm started the more positive of the two sides and were passing the ball out of defence through midfield but were constantly falling short in the places where it mattered.
Ystradgynlais then felt they had opened the scoring when a twenty yard shot hit the underside of the cross bar and bounce precariously close to the goal line but the referee felt that the ball did not cross the line and waved play on.
Cwm then had a couple of half chances but the Ystrad keeper did not have a save to make for the entire 90 minutes as did Adrian Barnsley in the Cwm goal which showed that the defences of both teams were on top. Then Cwm with 5 minutes of the half to go conceded a sloppy penalty to allow Craig Hopkins to calmly score from the resulting spot kick.
Again during the second period as the first turned out the two sides defence were not allowing any opportunities for the respective attacks. Try as they might Cwm could not find that elusive equaliser with the best chance coming from a Roy Tomlinson effort. Cwm gave a brief run out for 16 year old Andrew Lewis to give him the chance of playing Welsh League football. If Cwm are to avoid the dreaded drop then they must start picking up points and with 15 games to go then it must be said that it is their hands. Next week Cwmamman are away to Llantwit Fardre whilst the reserves have no fixture but the third eleven are home against INCO.
