After two minutes, early pressure saw the home team take the lead when centre Andrew Spratt landed a penalty.
The visitors were stung by this reverse and from a well worked rolling maul centre Gavin Padgett crashed over for a converted try.
Back came the Fera and from a thunderous rolling maul with backs and forwards involved second row Mark Rewston crashed over for Spratt to convert.
In a thrilling contest it was the visitors who were next to score when a three quarter move saw centre Mike Collier finish off in style.
Back came the home team and they were rewarded for sustained pressure when Spratt landed a penalty.
During this period of play Ystalyfera wing forward John Evans was giving a man of the match performance, turning over ball after ball.
Some fine work by the whole side saw centre Spratt go crashing over.
He also landed the conversion and then brought a thrilling first half to a end with a penalty to leave the score at 23-14.
The league leaders made a storming start to the second half and only stout defence by full back Martyn Stoneman and outside half Mathew Scott prevented scores.
To their credit the visitors were not to be denied and were rewarded when Padgett crashed over for his second try.
The home team suffered a blow when influential prop Leighton Prosser was red carded.
The home team, who played the final quarter with fourteen players responded in brave fashion and a further Spratt penalty sealed a fine performance.
