Whitland 42 Cwllynfell 21 Asda National League Division 1 West AFTER their impressive performance against Aberavon, Cwm travelled to Whitland who had also given a fine account of themselves against Premiership opposition in the form of Cross Keys.
The opening quarter was all Cwmllynfell but resolute Whitland defence and a final pass going astray meant the only reward for the away side was a Peter Thomas penalty.
In this division, chances have to be taken and sure enough on their only incursion into Cwm's half, Whitland centre Lee Glanville crossed for a try converted by Aled Davies.
Cwm immediately struck back with a Peter Thomas penalty.
Just before the interval superb scrummaging gave Cwmllynfell a deserved penalty try which Thomas converted.
Fine passing between forwards and backs then saw Kevin Jones cross for an unconverted try to give Cwm an 18-7 lead at the break.
Whitland were first out of the blocks in the second half and a fine try by Dion Thomas, converted by Luke March put the Borderers right back in it at 18-14.
On the hour the home side moved ahead with a try from Matthew Hughes, converted by March.
Peter Thomas then levelled the scores at 21-21 before another Whitland try by Phil Morgan converted by March gave the away side a way to go with 15 mins left.
The match was gone when a spectacular chip ahead gave Whitland a converted try by Glanville.
Whitland sealed an improbable win with a try and conversion by March that gave Whitland a deserved victory. which avenged their defeat earlier in the season.
