Llandovery will have home advantage over Maesteg on Saturdayin the most important game of the season for the Tywi valley club, writes Huw S Thomas.

The Drovers are at the foot of the Premiership table with seven games to go, three points above opponents Maesteg and a win on Saturday will bring them level with the Old Parish on 18 points.

Despite the knowledge that Llandovery have passed the WRU criteria audit with flying colours - a score of 173 and 18 marks above the minimum 155 - there is still huge uncertainty as to what might happen to the bottom side at the end of the season.

There is still no final decision on the relegation-promotion issues in the Principality Premiership.

But it appears that one premiership club - not Llandovery - has been told that it has failed to gain the 155 points criteria mark necessary for continued membership of the Premiership.

In addition, four clubs in Division One have been confidentially informed that if they finish top of either One West or One East they will go up.

The worst possible scenario for Llandovery would be to finish bottom or bottom but one and for both the winners of Division One West and Division One East to be eligible for promotion.

Both the failed Premiership club and Llandovery would then risk relegation.

On the field The Drovers need to make certain therefore that they do not finish in the bottom two.

Llandovery must win their remaining three home games against fellow strugglers Maesteg, Swansea and Glamorgan Wanderers and preferably snatch an away win at against one of Bridgend, Aberavon, Ebbw Vale and Llanelli.

Coach Iestyn Thomas remains in positive mood.

" It's going to be tough as other teams are fighting with us for survival but if we can get a big crowd behind the players for the remaining three games then we are confident that we will do ourselves justice."

It all starts on Church Bank at 2 30 pm on Saturday.
