Ammanford U8s visited Pontyberem for a mini tournament against the home side, Llandeilo and Bynea.

Excellent conditions benefited Pontyberem in Ammanford's first match. Pontyberem ran into a four tries to one lead in the first half with Aled Phillips contributing to Ammanford's scoresheet.

The second half was a better contest with Hywel Coombes and Aled Phillips having a try each against Pontyberem's single try. Defence by Ammanford in the second half helped keep the scoreline at a presentable level, but Pontyberem won.

Their second game against Llandeilo started shakily and although a few passes ended in a territorial advantage for Ammanford, Llandeilo came from deep twice to score tries.

Llewelyn Pritchard and Robert Jones kept tagging well to help Ciaran Slee gain possession and an individual try resulted. Llandeilo bounced back again with a try from deep involving a good switch move. Ammanford pressurised the tryline for some time before the end of the half but unfortunately failed to capitalise and score a try.

The second half continued with Llandeilo showing good passing phases to score a couple of tries. Ammanford followed with a few lengthy runs and tries resulted from Aled Phillips and Hywel Coombes, ending in a loss by nine tries to five.

The third game against Bynea resulted in an improved performance by the Ammanford team, with all players tagging and attacking with increased confidence.

Robert Jones was given the ball a number of times to attack and draw in defence which enabled offloads and early tries by Liam Gleaves, Lloyd and Hywel Coombes and Aled Phillips.

The Bynea side kept in touch, but Ciaran Slee's two tries in the second half widened the gap, with Llewelyn Pritchard scoring the final try for a nine tries to four win.
