Ammanford's cricketers got back to winning ways in the South Wales Premier League division one with a 22-run victory over Cardiff in an enthralling game in the park.
Acting captain Rhys Huw Davies won the toss and elected to bat first, with his decision being backed up with a second wicket partnership of (72) by Saihaj Jaspal and Gruffudd Owen.
They took the score to 86, before the run-out of Owen (33) by Zach Healey in the 22nd over.
This provided a solid platform for Xavier Clarke coming in at number four to go on and construct a match winning and classy 99 not out performance off 87 balls.
This was supported by an excellent 46 by Jaspal and Fahad Sabir (25) to leave Ammanford posting a credible 238 for 7 and batting the full 50 allocated overs for the first time this season.
Ammanford’s opening bowlers started with imperious accuracy and applied the pressure from the off, with Siahaj bowling Meggit with the sixth ball of the innings, and Owen Davies’ first 3 overs going for no runs and taking the wicket of Asa Tribe in the process.
Wickets continued to fall regularly in the first 10 overs, with Jaspal taking 3 wickets and Cardiff seemingly in trouble at 33 for 4.
Sam Wyatt (84) put in a solid display, however, to anchor Cardiff’s innings, with some notable supporting performances by Steffan Jones (37), Zach (23) and tail ender Harry Robins (33) to take the game into the 44th over.
Wyatt was run out by Kurtis Marsh in a thrilling end to the game, with Ammanford winning by 22 runs
Ammanford play Port Talbot away next Saturday and will be hoping to carry on the form to close out the mid-point of the season positively.
