Cwmamman United travelled to Neath to take on Giants Grave FC and we saw both sides contribute to an entertaining hard fought 2-2 draw.
Cwm had beaten their opponents 3-0 at home a month ago but Giants Grave are a different proposition at home having lost just the once this season to title favourites Rockspur FC.
Cwm introduced new signings Cam Berry, Jack Sullivan and Max Coley for their club debuts while Evan Gibbs returned after suffering an injury in his first game for the club.
With everyone expecting Cwmamman to take some time for the new formation to gel, Cwm in fact started very well and after some early pressure an excellent corner to the far post was deflect in off Giants Grave defender Chris Mahoney for an own goal and a 1-0 lead.
The game continued at a ferocious pace with both sides creating some good chances and Elliot Smith agonisingly saw his shot scrape past the post with the keeper beaten while Nathan Wickham went close.
In the 34th minute Giants Grave were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Cwm penalty box and Scott Tomlinson cleverly steered it home through the wall and past Callum Andrews in the Cwm goal.
Giants Grave had the better of the final 10 minutes of the half and Charlie Davies, Sullivan, Gibbs and Cameron Williams had to work hard on defence.
With Cwm hoping to start the second half strongly disaster struck in the 47th minute when a penalty was awarded for a push as they defended a long ball. Andrews got a hand to it, but Tomlinson had done just enough to give Grave a 2-1 lead.
Cwm were looking more dangerous with Ryan Cole and sub Jackson Brereton seeing more possession and a brilliant ball from Max Coley saw the ever dangerous Taylor Smith fire home from a tight angle for 2-2 in the 60th minute.
Cwm were now in the ascendancy but the Neath side also continued to be a threat.
Cwm rang the changes having brought on David Brown, Iestyn Evans, Brereton and Luke Caffery and thought the breakthrough had come when a penalty was given for a trip on Elliot Smith but the referee changed his mind and gave a free kick on the edge of the box which was subsequently fired over the bar.
Both sides went at it until the end, but it ended all square for a well-deserved point for both sides.
Final score: Giants Grave FC 2 – 2 Cwmamman United.
This Tuesday, December 12 Cwm play Rockspir FC in the Macron West Wales League. K.O 7.15pm.
