This was another game where missed opportunities cost Ammanford the game, at least three tries were blown when the final pass was not given.
The game got off to a flying start when after just a minute of play a Harrison Garland interception gave the centre a 60m gallop to the try line. Outside half, Ryan Williams, added two. Within minutes Dynvant had responded when some good inter-passing between forwards and backs secured their first try, the kick levelled the score.
The home side extended the lead when they gathered a kick, a weak chase gave them room to attack which they did, their winger flew down the touchline and fed back inside putting the centre over. From the restart second row Mathew Lemon, chased and gathered the kick, fed wing Elis Lewis who dashed to the corner to score, 14-12.
A defensive lineout was over thrown by Ammanford, Dynvant gathered and scored. 19 – 12. Ammanford’s lineout worked better on the halfway line and after a couple of midfield carries a pass back to blind found wing Lewis as ever scrum half, Alex Davies, was supporting on the inside arc and he went over, 19-17, off the kick off Dynvant won a penalty, 22-17, after only 20 minutes 39 points had been scored.
The frantic scoring slowed somewhat for a few minutes, then all of a sudden the home second row made an interception 60m out. It was to far for him and the visitors got to him just inside their 22. Dynvant recycled well moving the ball, the home defence held well and forced a poor pass which Ammanford gathered, through several passes Ammanford looked like scoring a certain try only a poor pass saved Dynvant.
Ammanford kept the home side in their 22 thanks to some strong scrummaging led by props Maorgan Plimmer and Rhodri Jones. From a 5m scrum a wheel was flicked up by No8 Marco Dallavalle and within tight space two flick passes from Davies and Williams put Lewis in to score in the corner and level the scores at 22-22.
Ammanford’s run it from everywhere is great to see when it works, however, there are times when it is not on and on one such occasion the ran a penalty 10m from their own line, they were turned over on the 22 and Dynvant took full advantage scoring in the corner. A good conversion followed by a penalty gave the home team a 30 – 22 lead at the half.
Could Ammanford use the strong wind? Dynvant had the answer storming out of the blocks with some powerful carrying by their forwards they went 60m a penalty soon followed and all of a sudden Ammanford were 40 – 22 down. Staying positive and running at the home side Ammanford eventually created a narrow space down the blind putting Lewis in for his second.
Dynvant were finding it hard to clear the ball due to the strong wind but managed to win one final penalty kick at goal. Ammanford again responded and it was phase play that again created a space for Lewis to go over for his hat trick try. Ammanford were within a try but when a final break was made but the scoring pass was not given Dynvant managed to hang on for the win, 43 -37. A breathtaking game for the neutrals frustrating for the travelling supporters.
