AN Amman Valley boy is continuing his sporting success in shooting and has branched into swimming.
Dafydd Jones has been progressing well in rifle shooting, as one of the youngest in a number of competitions and placing well. Before Christmas, he qualified for the 10m British Schools Shooting competition’s final which was held in Staffordshire last week.
Dafz came in third place overall, losing out to two very experienced female competitors, making him the top male competitor in the category and earning him a bronze medal.
The Ysgol Dyffryn Amman pupil trains weekly at Go Sport Academy in Carmarthen and was the only Welsh junior rifle shooter to complete in the national final said his mum Rhian Jones.
“It was a very close final,” said Ms Jones.
The competition was hosted by British Shooting and was supported by the Welsh Shooting Federation.
Less than a week after his success in shooting, Dafz represented Amman Valley Swimming Club in the West Wales Regional Long Course Swimming Championships 2024. The championships were held in Swansea and he earned a personal best in two races.
Dafz said: “I was chuffed to knock 11 seconds off my 200m individual medley and earn personal best on my other races, as this one has the butterfly stroke in and it’s not my favourite.”
