WORK to develop Cwmamman United’s Grenig Park is progressing as the club looks to improve its sustainability whilst also providing more opportunities for players of all ages.
The club was awarded levelling up funding from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund, with support from Carmarthenshire council, to make improvements to their ground.
The project has already seen solar panels installed and a new, more efficient battery installed in the changing rooms, whilst a number of trees have been planted around the ground.
Further work to install upgraded LED floodlights and an energy efficient boiler has begun, and is due to be completed by the summer.
An area of unused space at the ground is also being transformed in to a new mini pitch to allow the expansion of the club’s youth teams. Work on this is well underway and should also be completed ready for the new season.
Club chairman Lance Williams said: “This project and funding helps protect the long term sustainability of our club.
“It ensures we can continue to provide and grow opportunities for the children and adults to play football, supporting mental health and wellbeing and friendship.
“It develops a facility at Grenig Park that is a valuable and environmental friendly asset for the whole community also covering wider social events into the future. A great achievement by all involved.”
“We have an excellent record of developing the Grenig Park facility over the last seven years or so,” said Keith Jones, club president and project lead.
“We have already installed three stands (275 seats), match floodlights, widened the pitch, installed drainage and security fencing and are now delighted to be able to go further moving Grenig Park to a more environmental and sustainable facility for our community.”
The club’s junior section chairman, Robert Griffiths, said: “The work that has been undertaken over the last few years by a small group of volunteers at the club is incredible.
“It ensures opportunities are available to so many youngsters and adults in the valley to improve their mental health and wellbeing through football.
“It will help sustain the club for generations to come and benefit the community.”
