Llandovery registered their second win of the season in the WRU Super Rugby Cymru competition on Thursday evening 10th October, overcoming table toppers Newport at Rodney Parade.
A much improved performance from last years Premiership league winners saw them opening the scoring after just six minutes with a try from their talisman skipper Lee Rees, fly-half Ioan Hughes added the extra 2 points with his conversion.
Hughes also added a penalty on the 11th minute. Newport responded with a converted try of their own in the 17th minute of play.
Llandovery prop Jamie Hughes then crossed the try line in the closing minutes of the first half with Hughes again been on target to make it 17-7.
Within minutes of the second half starting Ioan Hughes landed another penalty but Newport got points on the board with a converted try.
Llandovery winger Toby Baldwin looked to have taken a big step to secure victory for the Drovers when he crossed in the 60th minute with Hughes adding the conversion and another penalty minutes later.
Newport were not going to go down without a fight and mounted a comeback that saw them score two converted tries in the final 8 minutes of the game.
Llandovery hung on for a two point victory, 30-28. Despite their win they slip to 7th in the table.
They now look forward to the visit of Swansea to Church Bank with an evening fixture on Thursday 17th October. The Whites are yet to register a win in the new format league loosing all five of their games to date.
