AMMANFORD RFC returned to winning ways with a bonus point win on the road against struggling Maesteg Harlequins on Saturday.

Bouncing back from disappointment in the cup, Ammanford served up a seven-try feast of running rugby to secure the points in a 48-22 win.

Outside half Sam Potter was again in fine form, as was number eight Emyr Price – with the man of the match award having to be shared between them.

A much-changed Ammanford travelled up the Llynfi Valley to face a tough away encounter. The hosts as expected were very strong upfront and played a totally different style of rugby to the visitors.

In a tight opening quarter, Ammanford showed signs of the flowing rugby that they have played from the outset. Initial forays thwarted by the final pass or determined defence by the hosts.

After several attacking phases Ammanford were rewarded with the first try, scored by Emyr Price. This was converted by Sam Potter.

But a mistake from the restart saw the hosts peg Ammanford back almost immediately from a line-out.

Ammanford showed some dogged defending in the face a sustained period of pressure from the hosts, Morgan Plimmer's tackling very prominent.

The combative back-row managed to secure turn over possession and the backs attacked at every opportunity.

They were soon rewarded for the adventurous play when Kai Richards crossed to finish off a superb team try, which was again converted by Potter.

Potter then slotted home a penalty to extend the visitors lead 5-17.

The powerful Quins pack than hit back again and scored a second try from a rolling maul to make the halftime score 10-17.

After the break Ammanford started positively and the home side could not cope with the speed and tempo of the visitors' play.

Emyr Price crossed for his second try, with the boot of Potter adding the conversion.

Potter then took on the try-scoring responsibility himself, starting a move in his own 22 before some slick inter-passing between backs and forwards, with Potter on hand to finish off under the posts and add the conversion.

With what appeared to be a comfortable lead Ammanford rang the changes bringing on fresh legs. Before they could readjust the hosts hit back with another try from a close-range forward drive to reduce arrears.

This sparked Ammanford into life and they attacked at every opportunity. They were rewarded for their efforts with a try for in-form winger Liam Smith.

Smith then took full advantage of a smart break by Morgan Meaclem to score a second try, again converted by Potter.

Morgan Meaclem was then the recipient of some good interplay to glide through and score Ammanford's seventh try.

In the dying seconds the hosts rallied, and their forwards again got a hard-worked try.

The win sees Ammanford rise to fifth in the WRU Admiral Championship West, whilst the hosts dropped to twelfth.

Ammanford have a home game this weekend when they welcome Swansea Valley side Ystalyfera to the Recreation Ground.
