Here we have a round up of the Amman Valley rugby teams in action this past weekend in the WRU division three and four.

Amman United 6 - 34 Tycroes

Tycroes continued their unbeaten run in Division 3 West with a convincing victory over Amman United.

Tycroes secured a 34-6 win at Cwmamman Park, maintaining their top position in the table, just ahead of fellow unbeaten team, Tumble.

The visitors made some key changes, bringing Tom Cooksey, James Thomas, Ben James, and Ashley Hooper back into their pack.

Flanker Hooper, returning from injury, was named man of the match for his relentless disruption of the Amman ruck area.

Tycroes took the lead after early pressure; Hooper found a gap in the defence after 12 minutes, crossing the line unchallenged for the opening try.

Outside-half Rhys Tench assisted centre Dan Thomas for the second try, stretching the lead to 10-0.

The home team managed to break into the opponents' half, leading to a penalty kick from scrum-half Lee Evans.

However, Dan Thomas soon added another try for the visitors, further extending their lead.

Amman spent a considerable amount of time on the defensive.

In some rare moments of attack, captain Rhydian Jones, along with Liam Danter, Tom Watson, and George Clark, showed significant improvement compared to their side’s previous match at Llandadog.

Just before half-time, Amman brought on Clive Bale, a former player, for a brief appearance.

The half ended with Tycroes leading 15-3.

The second half, dubbed the "Luc Rees Derby," saw the Reds score first with a penalty from Lee Evans.

However, prop Rhodri Jones soon assisted centre Shaun Jones to secure the bonus point score with a try.

Tench successfully converted for the first time out of the four attempts.

Tycroes scrum-half Cian Trevalyan burst through a fatigued Amman defence, but the move was ultimately halted.

Another attack soon followed, and some excellent interplay between Dan Thomas and Hugh Conway found Hooper, who scored once again.

Despite the mounting difficulties, Amman continued to battle.

Some excellent attacking play almost yielded a reward, but first, Lee Evans was held up on the try line.

Danter and Rhydian Jones were then stopped just inches from the line.

It was not to be for United on this occasion.

Dan Thomas capped a fine personal performance by crossing for his hat trick try, putting the finishing touch to a polished showing from the visitors.

These two old rivals are set to clash again on Saturday, this time in the Division 3 West Cup at Cae Gelli, with a 2.30pm kick-off.

Maesteg 37 - 22 Cwmgors

In Division 4 West (Central), Maesteg defeated Cwmgors 37-22 in a match that began with a minute’s silence in memory of Cwmgors stalwart Alun "Bach" James, who recently died.

Maesteg opened the scoring with an early penalty, quickly levelled by Cwmgors' Jordan Smith.

Wing Jac Evans scored the opening try for Cwmgors, giving them the lead.

The home side then scored two tries, stretching their lead to 13-8.

However, Cwmgors fought back, with Dewi Smith finishing an attacking move to score.

Smith converted, but Maesteg took the lead at half-time with a score of 20-15.

The visitors began the second half positively, with Dewi Smith crossing the line to give Cwmgors a 22-20 advantage.

Unfortunately for Cwmgors, the home side managed to secure two more tries, ending the match at 37-22.

Cwmgors will now take a break from league action, turning their focus to the second round of the Division 4 West Central Cup with an away trip to Neyland.
