Llandybie Rugby Club delivered an impressive performance away against Bynea, securing a 36-12 victory.
The match began with Llandybie conceding an early try for the second consecutive week, but the team quickly regained composure.
Bynea’s early aggression was met with a fine clearance kick from Llandybie centre Chris Powell, allowing the visitors to get on the scoreboard with a penalty on the 10-minute mark.
Llandybie’s confidence grew as new props Ethan Walters and Christian Davies excelled in their first outing together.
The visitors displayed a free-flowing style of play, with second-row Josh Powell’s deft passing setting up captain Jordan Tommason for a well-deserved try, converted by Chris Powell.
Bynea retaliated with a cross-field move, halted by a decisive tackle from Llandybie wing Josh Watkins.
The home side then mounted a period of pressure, during which Llandybie had two players yellow carded for persistent infringements.
However, the Llandybie defence held firm, keeping Bynea at bay until half-time.
As the second half commenced, the hosts scored rapidly, bringing them within three points of Llandybie.
However, Llandybie responded well, with a determined break by Steff Jones, followed by strong carries from Merlyn McClelland and Josh Powell, pushing the visitors into the Bynea half.
A touch finder from Chris Powell led to hooker Dafydd Wyn Jones finding his man Ioan Rees in the line out.
Jones moved the ball rapidly to Powell, allowing Rhys Evans to cross for another Llandybie try, which Powell converted, extending the lead.
A midfield break by fly-half Tomas Lloyd Evans, following a robust carry by Ryan Davies, facilitated a grubber kick through by hooker Jones, enabling Evans to score his second try.
This secured Llandybie a bonus point.
Bynea attempted to respond, breaking down the left, but winger Rhys Jones made a crucial tackle to halt their progress.
Llandybie’s Steff Jones made a remarkable midfield break, but his chip ahead was cleared by the last defender.
The home side began conceding a series of penalties and were fortunate not to have any players sent to the bin.
A strong take by Rhys Cann at the back of a lineout fed the ball back from the ruck, with McClelland making significant ground.
The ball was moved right to Rhys Jones, who accelerated past two tacklers and offloaded to man of the match Rhys Evans, who completed his hat trick.
With this decisive victory, Llandybie Rugby Club marked their best performance in two seasons.
The team is now set to face high-flying Trimsaran at home next Saturday.
