Ammanford fell short in a hard-fought rugby match against top-of-the-table Tondu.
The encounter, which took place at Tondu's home ground, was expected to be challenging, with Ammanford facing a more experienced side that effectively capitalised on opportunities.
Tondu were well-led by outside half, Paul Smithson, whose proficient kicking skills out of hand and at the posts made a significant difference in the game, which was played in wet conditions.
In the initially balanced first 20 minutes, neither team managed to make a significant threat to the try line.
The first points of the match came from a penalty kick for the home team, which seemed to ignite their momentum.
Smithson's well-placed cross-field kick found its mark with the winger, who sprinted down the touchline to score.
After more hard work from the home team, Smithson secured a second penalty, pushing Tondu further ahead before Ammanford's Sam Potter responded with a penalty.
This was all Ammanford could manage against a robust home defence, leaving the half-time score at 13-3.
Tondu began the second half strongly, with a clever move from a 5m out line-out resulting in a try by the scrum half in the corner.
Despite determined efforts from the visitors, including strong plays from Dylan Phillips and Marco Dallavalle, Ammanford struggled to gain ground.
The wet conditions were not ideal for Ammanford's usual running rugby style, resulting in handling errors that gave Tondu the advantage.
Ammanford's only response was another penalty from Potter, bringing the score to 18-6.
A mishandled pass from Ammanford was seized upon by Tondu, allowing their winger to score in the corner.
Smithson completed a challenging touchline kick, bringing the score to 25-6.
Ammanford continued to fight back, and as the Tondu pack began to tire, Potter took advantage.
Picking up a loose ball on his own 22m line, he darted through the home forwards, drew the full-back, and passed to second row Callan Davies, who scored.
Potter added the conversion, bringing the score to 25-13.
Despite Ammanford appearing the fitter side in the closing stages, time was not on their side, and the game ended 25-13 to the home team.
