SUPER Zack Davies introduced himself to the boxing world recently when he claimed silver at the Commonwealth Games in India with only a bout of food poisoning and a boxer three years his senior stopping him from getting gold.
Sixteen-year-old sensation Zack, who trains at Cwmgors ABC, has already set the British boxing scene alight with his performances.
And his superb performances out in India ensured that his name was on the lips of boxers, trainers and officials the world over.
Delighted coach Ronnie Morris said: “Tony Williams, the Wales coach, said that by the end of the games everybody was talking about Zack.
“People from all over the world were really impressed with him, which they should be, because it was a fantastic achievement.”
What made Davies’s performances even more incredible was the fact that he was giving all of his opponents at least three years in age terms, having only qualified by around three weeks.
“He’s just 16 but it didn’t look like that at all.
“It’s an incredible achievement,” beamed Morris.
Davies, who boxed at light flyweight, looked set to clinch gold before being struck down by food poisoning.
“He carried on fighting but in the end he lost to an Indian boy who was three years older than him, and fighting at home.”
Davies’ incredible progress has even seen him placed on an elite shortlist for boxers targeting London 2012.
“He’s doing really well and his achievement out in India was sensational,” said Morris.
“We’ve got a dinner show on Friday but Zack’s not involved, I think he deserves a breather,” he added.
