MORE than £1 million will be spent on keeping the county’s roads safe this winter, it has been revealed.
The cash has been set aside by the council as part of its winter maintenance programme.
The roads are salted when there is a risk of ice, and during severe weather, cleared of snow.
A spokeswoman said trunk and primary roads would be given priority followed by principal routes, roads leading to important industrial and military establishments, hospitals, ambulance stations, fire stations, inter-city stations, bus garages, important bus routes, slip roads and known trouble spots.
Executive board member for the environment Councillor Haydn Jones said: "We do everything we can to keep roads safe during the winter, however, motorists are urged to take extra care."
