IT was the Teigrod who took full advantage of their chances. Tommy Morgan, with his pace, left the Ammanford defence in tatters and that goal was followed shortly after with another great goal from Cai Davies, shooting just inside the 18-yard box and into the bottom left hand corner.
The Teigrod were now moving the ball with confidence and looked certain to further their lead but that wasn’t to be and it was Ammanford who got the next brace of goals. Some good team play and individual skill gave Ammanford a new lease of life and they continued to push forward. With the new growing confidence of Teigrod’s defence and goal keeper they were the only two goals Ammanford were to score on this cold morning.
A few tactical changes were made at half time by the Teigrod coaches and this gave more strength in midfield. Teigrod now upped the tempo of the game, creating more space in midfield allowing Sam, Rhun and Cai to distribute defence-splitting passes for Tommy, Shaun and Lewis to attempt on goal. From time to time Ammanford threatened the Teigrod goal but Luke Heath proved it wasn’t to be. It was nice to see Charlie and Jack dominating the centre of defence and a mention to Rhydian Thomas and Tommy Priestland who also did a good job in their defensive roll. The Teigrod continued to force Ammanford back and another two goals were scored by the energetic Tommy Morgan who completed a great hat-trick and scored Teigrod’s fourth goal of the day. There was now breathing space between the two teams and with ten minutes to go Teigrod made their first substitution – Jack Poulson, who was another added strength to the midfield, and that is how it remained to the end of the game.
This was a very good game of football with some great individual skills from both teams. They have to meet again in the cup and for the neutral supporter it promises to be a good game of football. Man of the Match voted for by the players was Tommy Morgan (for his blistering pace).
