Cwm travelled to Neath in freezing conditions in what was potentially a ‘banana skin’ of a game against a CMB team that were looking for their first win of the season.
Cwm started well with some neat passing moves on a terrible pitch which would have been more suited for the kick and chase kind of play.
It was only the crossbar keeping out Jarno’s stunning free kick, the post being struck from a Carl James effort and a superb flying save from the box keeper from a Brendan Nickelin 30 yard screaming shot kept the game goalless after half hour but the opening goal was always on the cards and it duly came from some excellent attacking play from Paul Davies down the left flank.
His play got the ball to Paul Landek who turned superbly and hit a fierce shot into the bottom corner of the net to the delight of the travelling fans.
It was a different story however in the second half, with the wind now strongly behind the home side.
Some good saves and clearances from Cwm keeper Wayne Neale and a glaring miss when it would have been easier to score kept the visitors ahead but it was only a matter of time before the equaliser arrived and it came from an excellent cross from the left which put the ball on the plate for the striker who finished nicely.
Cwm lost the below par Carl James through injury and things went from bad to worse when the home side took the lead with ten minutes remaining and the game looked dead and buried for Cwm.
However, with five minutes left on the clock, the hosts managed to shoot themselves in the foot with an own goal from a corner which gave the visitors a lift and in the last minute, some superb chasing down from Cwmamman sub Carl Jones – racing to a ball he should never have got to – resulted in a shot that was cleared but only after it had crossed the line.
The referee, who had been superb throughout, rightfully awarded the goal to the dismay of the home side.
A great result for Cwm in the end and some good preparation work ready for the visit of last season’s champions Giants Grave which promises to be a blockbuster of a game next week. Kick off 2.30pm.
