Scarlets came agonisingly close to an away victory over the Ospreys at Liberty Stadium on Saturday evening with only two points separating the two sides at close of play.
The West Wales derby was a thrilling battle with Scarlets going ahead in the opening quarter before the homeside hit back with two tries. A much more determined second half performance by the Scarlets kept the Ospreys away from the scoreboard and brought the visitors back within two points.
Speaking after the defeat Scarlets Head Coach Wayne Pivac said: “I thought we’d done enough to win that game. We’re pretty frustrated with a few decisions towards the end of the game.”
Just as the Scarlets got to put things right at Parc y Scarlets in the second leg of the back-to-back against Ulster, in the European Rugby Champions Cup earlier this month, the opportunity will come again to right the wrongs of yesterday against the Ospreys at the Parc next week.
Pivac went on to say: “I think you saw out there today it’s very much game on. Playing at home I’d like to think that we’ll be right in there, pushing harder than we were today.
“There was a lot of frustration in the changing room after that second half and so we’d like to think we’ll be up for the game next weekend again and hopefully go one step further.”
With an unbeaten record in the Guinness PRO12 in 2014 Pivac’s men will be keen to kick-off 2015 with a victory, he said: “We have a proud record at home this year and we want to maintain that.
“It’s a big game next week, a big challenge for us but certainly we haven’t lost focus on the fact we need to get a win.
“All games are important but winning the games at home are a priority and getting maximum points from them.”
