Division Three West Lampeter 10, Tumble 16 (match abandoned after 70 mins) THE Magpies dominated the game, only for referee Mike Davies to pull up injured with ten minutes play remaining.
Lampeter started with a strong wind at their backs and, within the space of five minutes were ten points ahead after flanker Thomas scored a try. The conversion came from Huw Thomas, who added a further penalty.
Once Tumble settled, they looked strong and some good work from Nathan Wilcox and James Stephens got them on the front foot.
Keeping the ball in hand as often as they could, they gradually worked upfield.
When the ball was lost however, the big boot downfield gained metres for the home side.
The Magpies had to defend sternly and some superb defensive work from Jonathan Davies and Rhys Lewis stopped a lively Lampeter side. The home side attacked fromtheir own ten-metre line and, when the ball went wide, Tumble’s flyer Dafydd Pritchard intercepted the final pass and hared down the wing to score in the corner.
With nine minutes of the half left, Lampeter infringed in their own 22 and Steve Hewitt kicked the resultant penalty.
The second half provided Tumble with ample ball and the pressure exerted on the home side kept them pinned in their own half. Tumble’s silky centre Iwan Price made some good breaks, as did wing Allinson. Lampeter were penalised just inside Tumble’s half and full back Steve Hewitt kicked a monster from 55 metres.
Wave after wave of Tumble attacks put Lampeter under the screw and, when Chris Davies sniped over wide out for a try, it was only a matter of how many points the Magpies could now rack up.
But referee Davies pulled up with a suspected hamstring injury and, as a result, the match had to be abandoned after 70 minutes.
