Division Five South West Cwmtwrch 6 Cwmgors 13 CWMGORS’ rich vein of form continued with a fine victory in this Swansea Valley derby at Cwmtwrch.
Cwmgors’ young guns began the match brightly, and in a rather scrappy, but very tight, first half, the visitors should have penetrated the home tryline early on, but twice fell at the last hurdle when the final pass failed to go hand.
Cwmtwrch opened their account with an early penalty, but the Cherries had drawn level by the interval when scrum halfMatthewJones slotted his kick over for three points.
With Cwmgors missing the services of some influential players, namely the injured Liam Jones and the unavailable Daniel Ponds and Robert Clive, they took the bull by the horns after the break.
They went ahead from a maul, which saw wing Steve Edwards gather to go over from close range.
It got better for ‘Gors when, again from close range, flanker Cerith Dennard produced a neat popped pass for his brother, hooker Rhodri, to finish off well.
With a minute remaining, Cwmtwrch were awarded a penalty and they took the chance to pinch a losing bonuspoint by slotting over.
For the visitors, outside half Darrell Howells was named man of the match in another solid team performance.
